I really had a busy week and thank goodness I was that busy. I am almost done with my Management 7 Business Plan. I have to bcos it is due next week. I still have another business plan on my Management 1 to make. But I wasn’t sure whether I’m not in the mood to make it or I just don’t like to do it. Studying wasn’t that cool by the way, in fairness; I have had wonderful moments with my classmates. I am enjoying my time with my classmates in Mgt7 class, I even love my teacher cos she’s wacky and approachable (umm, next to my all-time fave Mgt9 professor). Who will ever dare to forget Mr. Raffy Salomon? Not me bcos he’s the best teacher for me. The worst class for me is my Mgt1 class. Nah, it’s not that I hate the professor, I simply hate the way she handles the subject. I know she’s smart and she’s really capable in teaching the subject, but I just hate her ways. Enough of the backstabbing (LOL) and focus on the things I’ve learned, experienced, and cherished. The term will end soon and I have 2 more weeks to finish everything. I know I can get all things done before the due date or shall I say… before the due date. Well, all I needed is a cup of hot cappuccino and rest assured, it’ll be done like a pro. (hehe) Soon enough, I’ll say goodbye to my Management Accounting course and will say hello to my MBA. Wish me luck everyone! What is it? What’s with it? Why it exist? Where does it come from? Who made it? I bet you also feel the same weirdness as I am right now. The word isn’t new cos I’ve already heard it many years ago – elementary, most probably. I never thought such a word exist cos it is long and it seems like meaningless to me and it is somewhat stupid. Fourteen or fifteen years ago, my English teacher asked the class to give the most syllabicated word we can utter; Only four to five syllables are the most syllabicated word we give. We thought there’s no way a word can have more than 5 syllables; surprisingly, this word amazed us – and who wouldn’t? Whosoever encounters this word for the first time will be amazed.
So, what is this word?
According to my research, Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious is actually a 34 lettered song title from the 1964 movie Mary Poppins (a). Like what I’ve said, I first met this ridiculous word 15 years ago or so. It’s mysterious and it’s funny. All I know that time was that – it was accepted as a ‘word’ and considered the longest word and even the highest syllabicated word. What’s with it?
As a song title, it is a proper noun, but the word, and variations, has entered the English language as an adjective. It is one of the longest words in the English language(a). It is also called a non-sense word meaning fantastic; and was used by children to express approval or to represent the longest word in English (b). So, it is a song. I have tried looking for a sample and fortunately found one in YouTube: Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. IT was fun. Yet another YouTube video of Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.
Why it exist? The song describes using the word as a miraculous way to talk oneself out of difficult situations, and even as a way to change one's mood. The song appears in the film's animated sequence where Mary Poppins is harangued by reporters after winning a horse race and responds to one claiming there are not words to describe her feelings of the moment. Mary disagrees with that and begins the song about one word she can use. Ever since, the word is used as an adjective referring to "absolutely stunningly fantastic" (c). Since it is a movie, it will be nice if I’ll rent it and check. I’ll expect it to be funny; I hope so. Where it come from?
The roots of the word are fairly clear, as Richard Lederer wrote in his book Crazy English: super- "above," cali- "beauty," fragilistic- "delicate," expiali- "to atone," and docious- "educable," the sum meaning roughly "Atoning for extreme and delicate beauty while still being highly educable." This is the perfect word for Mary Poppins to use, being that she thinks of herself as incredibly beautiful but also extremely intelligent. (c). This word really amazed me every now and then. The more you get to know the history of this word, the more exciting it gets. I wonder If I can make my own meaning to it. Could it be possible? Nah! It’s plagiarism. Who made it?
Actually I don’t know either. Perhaps, it’s the writer of the ‘Mary Poppins’ animated series or the songwriter. Oh well…if ever I missed something, you better search the inet for more info cos mine is limited and word was weird enough to have a crazy history. References: a. www.reference.com b. The Real Me
Many people say I’m a snob. I concur. I am not the type who adjust flexibly just to anyone.
Most of the people I know say I complain a lot. I agree. I have this attitude of telling everything I don’t like besides those I hate doing, I know, I’m despicable.
I am a loner. I enjoy solitude. You often see me alone in times of my emotional dramas and clichés. Distraction of my privacy annoys me. If I want to be alone, I should; and everyone should not cross the line. If I’m upset, angry or not in the mood, I often tell. I don’t act in contrary to what I feel, never did I. Most people sealed their lips, I do otherwise.
My hobbies vary. It constantly changing, but rest assured I have several that I still do. Add to it, as a music lover. I love listening to music. I habitually sing with them. I typically picks songs in random, I choose those ear-fascinating. I don’t mind metal rock, punk or even the instrumental, as long as my ear likes them, then I will listen. Watching tv series, dramas and movies is the next best hobby for me. I am an ultimate couch potato, really. Though there are plenty of movies I failed to finish watching, I still pick and play whatever there is. If the movie bores me, I stop it or I fall asleep.
Aside from listening to watching whatever, I blog. Blogging is writing. My write-ups depend on my mood also; but I write a lot. It became my emotional outlet for the past years and up to now, blogging aids my peevish and tantrums.
I can sing and tries to be good. I can’t sing well because I have problem with key notes. High key notes always get me down. Well, I’d rather sing than dance. My feet are both left, so I can’t dance. I’m physically incapable to dance because I have a huge body built, fat to be exact. Blame the food! Food always putting a spell on me, they became irresistible. I’m a risk-taker when it comes to food, that’s why also. Though there are so many dishes I am yet to try, I don’t mind taking them one at a time. It takes time to taste everything. If not from restaurant or cafeteria, I cook it myself. Yea, I’m an amateur cook. I cook for myself, my special someone, my kids, my friends and my family.
KIDS? Shock?! Yea, I have kids. Let’s say, more then 20. Some of them are currently with their foster parents. I only got 4 under my roof. They are my sweethearts; the apple of my eyes. Ok, cut it!
Let’s continue with my vice; and that’s shopping. I hate it when I have money because I shop a lot. Let’s say, with shoes, I can’t buy just a pair of them, it pleasures me if I can have three. I’m always like that and I don’t think that will change.
Lately, I’m becoming too emotional. Maybe because I am out of my comfort zone; hopefully, things will be better soon.
